Summer Moving Tips

For most of the world, summer is the best season to relocate.  With the kids being out of school, the warm weather and the house market is usually at an all time high. Did you now that nearly a third of annual moves happen during the summer months, and choosing a professional mover can prevent things from getting heated. We are here to supply you with moving tips for moving during the busiest time of year.

Book your Move Date ASAP

Moving can be very stressful, most movers tend to get booked up a couple months in advance during the summer! Now would be the time look for a reliable moving company such as AMJ Campbell and set up a FREE moving quote 6-8 weeks before your moving date.If you need any additional services such as packing, unpacking and insurance, let us know as early as possible. If you are planning to move at the end of the month, this is our busiest time, please do us and yourself a favour and book ASAP!

Purge and Get Organized!

Before moving, purge as much as you can! Let us know if you need storage especially if you don't have a destination location bought or rented yet.

Start Packing

Once you have sold your house, pack the remaining items (unless you have hired packers). If you need packing material, let us know and we can supply this for you.

Find a Safe Spot for Important Documents

Make sure to set aside any important documents you may need during your move. Find a envelope or binder/folder large enough to keep all documents inside and pack it in your suitcase before you move.

Transferring Utilities

Don’t forget to update your address and transfer your utilities, you do not want to be entering your new home with no electricity, gas or water.

Make Arrangements for Kids and Pets

Moving is stressful enough and it can especially be hard on kids and pets. Let your kids and pets stay safe and out of the way by arranging childcare/pet care arrangements. This will ensure that your mind is at ease, its one less thing you will have to worry about on moving day.

Stay Hydrated

Moving in the summer is the most popular time to move. The warm weather is on the rise and moving in hot weather can be unpleasant. Whether you are the one moving or having a moving company do the work for you, it’s always best to take extra precautions to avoid dehydration or other injuries. Keep lots of cold water, Gatorade in a iced cooler on hand for you and your moving crew. Stay away from caffeinated and alcoholic drinks as they can be dehydrate you quickly. To see more about moving in the heat, please see this post.

Take Care of Your Items

With summering being the prime time to take care of your lawn and yard, its important to drain the water out of garden hoses, and gasoline out of your motor equipment such as lawnmowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, motor bikes, chain saws, BBQ propane tanks, lighters, fire extinguishers. You should do this a week before your move date. Gasoline cannot be transported under any circumstances. Hoses should be packed in a box when they are dry and emptied. Contact us for a full list of items we cannot transport.

Try not to pack perishable food item, chocolate/candies, candles or other items that could potentially melt or damage your belongings.

Some belongings should not be moved in extreme summer heat, let us know if you have any concerns about your items while in transportation.

Please let us know if you will be making the move this summer, no matter where, we can move you there.
